Our church hosted an overnight community event called ShantyTown
West 2007 this past Saturday, Oct. 27. Students from Church
of the Master, and more
spent the night in cardboard boxes on the church lawn to experience
what it is like to be homeless. During the evening they shared
a common meal of soup prepared in a large pot. Various speakers
spoke to the group about the subject, including a policeman
and also a former homeless youth.
This event was sponsored by ,
Inc., a local organization whose mission is to assist at-risk
and homeless youth in Indianapolis.
We are taking to heart the command of Jesus to “love
your neighbor as thyself.
